The 2017 Award of Merit winners plus the 2017 Oral Health Foundation of the Pierre Fauchard Academy International Scholarship winners were announced by Academy President Patrick Meaney in December 2017

“On behalf of the Australasian Section Chairs and the Board of the academy, we recognise the achievement of the winner of each category.

These Awards recognise students for their involvement in the profession while studying at university. The Academy expects and encourages these young leaders to pursue excellence in their chosen profession. We also ask that they look to the future and continue this passion as a life-long goal.

“The Award Of Merit is a $AUD450 grant to a student from each Dental School in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji on the recommendations of the Dean for excellence in their coursework, written assignments or related activities during the 2017 academic year.

“The PFA Scholarship is given to a selected student who is enrolled in the 2017 academic year as their penultimate year of study prior to graduation. The student should demonstrate great potential for developing into an outstanding leader in the profession because of their participation in the University, the dental school or the community. The nominee is an “above average” student in their academic performance. They ideally embody qualities of integrity, imagination, initiative and communication skills. This award is granted to a student from each Dental School in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji on the recommendations of the Dean or Head of School for excellence in their coursework, written assignments and related activities during the 2017 academic year.

“The Academy fosters young and talented dentists and students, through this scheme and also through the International Emerging Lecturer Competition so that the science of dentistry continues to improve and advance, and we recognise these awardees for their hard work and success.”
